Opportunities for children to enjoy drama are rapidly dwindling from the primary curriculum, and as a result many young pupils have never experienced live drama, or had a chance to explore this artistic medium. In Nottinghamshire in particular, government statistics indicate that primary school pupils fall below the national average for achieving level 4b or above in reading tests and level 4 or above in writing assessments. The first step to achieving higher attainment for these pupils is to foster an interest in literature and spark their interest. With pupils set to study a lot more Shakespeare during their secondary curriculum, we want to find a fun and accessible way to engage children earlier on, through drama.

Thank you to all our kind supporters raising funds to help us to pilot 'Shhh...akespeare!' - an innovative performance and creative workshop using Macbeth to break down barriers to learning for youngsters in disadvantaged areas. We have reached our pledge target but still have funds to raise. Find out more...
