We are deeply saddened to hear about David Johnston's death. David was one of New Perspectives key founders and we have him to thank for the company we are today. As the company approaches its 45th year, we acknowledge this a remarkable achievement, one grown from an idea between five Bretton Hall graduates. Everyone involved over the decades: our staff, artists, audiences and wider stakeholders have all benefited from those first seeds of imagination, energy and passion.
In 2013 David helped us to reconnect and bring together the founding members to join us in celebrating the company's 40th anniversary to coincide with performances at Derby Theatre. It was a privilege for the current team to get to know him and join him at the University of Nottingham for an exhibition celebrating community theatre, featuring the work of both New Perspectives and Rounabout TIE, which he subsequently led at Nottingham Playhouse for ten years.
David was as passionate an advocate for our work today as he was setting up the company in 1973. This speaks volumes about his generosity, open mindedness and kindness. Theatre in the East Midlands and beyond has a great deal to thank him for.
